Ontario's employment laws are the same everywhere in the province. The Employment Standards Act and the common law of reasonable notice apply equally in Mississauga and in Ottawa. What changes by location is mainly which courthouse a case would be filed in if it doesn't settle. Claims up to $50,000 can go to Small Claims Court, and larger claims go to the Superior Court of Justice.
Toronto and North York
We're based downtown at 2 Bloor St W, Suite 703, steps from Bloor-Yonge station. Toronto civil cases in the Superior Court of Justice are heard at 330 University Avenue. We act for employees across the city, including North York, Etobicoke and Scarborough.
Mississauga
Mississauga is part of Peel Region, so a lawsuit that doesn't settle would generally proceed in the Superior Court of Justice in Brampton. We advise Mississauga employees on terminations, severance packages and workplace rights, usually entirely by phone.
Brampton
Brampton cases are also heard at the Brampton courthouse for Peel Region. We help Brampton employees with terminations, temporary layoffs, and questions about whether a worker is an employee or a contractor.
Oakville
Oakville is in Halton Region, where Superior Court matters are heard in Milton. We advise Oakville employees on severance packages, termination clauses, and non-compete and non-solicitation clauses.
Milton
Milton is home to the Halton Region courthouse. We act for employees in Milton and across Halton, including Burlington and Oakville.
Barrie
Barrie is the court centre for Simcoe County. We help Barrie-area employees review severance offers and assert their rights by phone and video, with no need to travel to Toronto.
Ottawa
Ottawa matters are heard at the Ottawa courthouse. Ontario employment law applies to most Ottawa employers. If your employer is federally regulated, such as a bank, telecom, airline or the federal public service, different rules under the Canada Labour Code may apply. Tell us at the start of your consultation so we can advise accordingly.
